Product Overview

Turmeric is the rhizome of Curcuma domestica. The Department of Export Agriculture says it is grown in the wet and intermediate zones of Sri Lanka, as a single crop or under coconut. The major districts are Kurunegala, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale and Ampara. Turmeric is sold in whole dried form or as powder. The rhizomes are washed, boiled for 30 minutes and then dried for 10-15 days. Dried rhizomes are rubbed on a rough surface, which turns them bright yellow. The department gives a quality specification of 9% moisture and 5-6% curcumin. Turmeric is used mainly as a colouring and flavouring agent in the food industry and in curry mixtures. Dried turmeric is listed here as available on request, and packaging is available on request. Send the form (whole or powder) and any curcumin level you need, quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.
