Product Overview

The dried fruit, or capsule, is the traded form of cardamom. The Department of Export Agriculture says cardamom grows in the central hill country at elevations of 600 m and above, in the wet and intermediate zones. Kandy, Matale, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and part of Galle are the major districts. Capsules are picked before they are fully ripe and dried in hot air barns, a step known as green curing. The department lists five grades by colour and share of splits: Lanka Green, Lanka Light Green 1, Lanka Light Green 2, Lanka Bleached and Lanka Non Specified. Colour runs from green to pale buff. Cardamom is sold whole, as seeds or ground, and flavours curries, sweets, bakery products, coffee and tea. Whole cardamom is listed here as available on request, and packaging is available on request. Send the grade (for example Lanka Green), quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.
