Product Overview

Nutmeg and mace come from one tree, Myristica fragrans. The Department of Export Agriculture says nutmeg prefers the cooler mid country. It names Kandy as the main growing district, with Kegalle and Matale as the other major areas. Fruits are picked as they split. The mace is cut from the nut, flattened by hand and dried slowly in the sun until it is bright orange-yellow. The nuts are dried until the kernel rattles in the shell, then sold in the shell or shelled. The department lists nutmeg with shell as Grade 1, Grade II and B.W.P., shelled nutmeg as Large, Medium, Small and B.W.P., and mace as Grade I Special, Grade I and Grade II. Both are used to flavour curries, confectionery, bakery products and beverages. Nutmeg and mace are listed here as available on request, and packaging is available on request. Send the product (nutmeg in shell, shelled nutmeg or mace) and grade, quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.
