Product Overview

Ceylon black tea is grown across all seven tea-growing regions of Sri Lanka, according to the Export Development Board. Most of it is made by the orthodox method, which the Sri Lanka Tea Board describes as the traditional way of making black tea. After drying, the tea is sorted by leaf size with a mechanical sifter. OP stands for Orange Pekoe. The Tea Board points out that the term refers to a leaf size and not to a flavour. OP is one of the whole leaf grades, and leaf grades contain the largest pieces. The Tea Board describes Orange Pekoe as having a strong scent and a smooth flavour with a sweet finish. Typical uses are loose leaf packs, tea in packets and blending. This tea is listed as available on request, as a standard export product of Sri Lanka. Packaging is available on request. Send the grade, quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.

Questions about Ceylon Black Tea, OP Grade

What does OP mean on Ceylon tea?

How does OP differ from BOP?

OP is a whole leaf grade. BOP is a broken grade with smaller pieces. The Tea Board says leaf size has no bearing on quality in itself, but it affects the colour and strength of the brew.
