Product Overview

Two coffee types are grown commercially in Sri Lanka. The Department of Export Agriculture says Arabica prefers the wet and intermediate zones above 800 m and is mostly grown in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Matale and Badulla. Robusta prefers land below 800 m and is mainly grown in Kegalle, Kurunegala, Kandy and Matale. Coffee is picked selectively and processed in one of two ways. In the dry method, ripe berries are dried in the sun and the outer layer is removed afterwards. This is known as cherry coffee. In the wet method, the outer layers are removed by a pulper, and the seeds are fermented, washed and dried. This is known as parchment coffee, and the department rates it above cherry coffee in quality. The beans are sold to coffee roasters and blenders. Coffee beans are listed here as available on request, and packaging is available on request. Send the type (Arabica or Robusta) and processing method, quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.
