Product Overview

Betel, Piper betle, is an evergreen climber grown all over Sri Lanka. The commercial product is the leaf. The Department of Export Agriculture says export quality betel, known as Kalu bulath, comes mainly from the Kurunegala, Gampaha, Kegalle, Kalutara and Colombo districts. Kalu bulath has bigger, thicker leaves with a dark green colour. For export quality the department lists leaves at least 20 cm long and 15 cm wide, well matured and dark green, with high pungency, freshness and a leaf stem of 2.5 to 3 cm. Leaves are bundled in sets of 40 and, for export, packed in cane baskets. They are used for chewing with areca nut and slaked lime and at ceremonial events. Fresh betel leaves are listed here as available on request, and packaging is available on request. Send the leaf size and number of bundles, quantity, packing and destination port by email from the Contact page or the How to order page. Documents and test reports can be discussed for each order.
