Nil Katardu Flower

Product Overview

Butterfly Pea Flower Drink is a herbal infusion made from the dried blue flowers of the butterfly pea vine, Clitoria ternatea, known in Sinhala as nil katarolu. The flower is the only ingredient listed for this product, and no tea leaf is listed. It is traditionally prepared as a herbal drink in Sri Lanka by steeping the dried flowers in hot water, which gives a blue liquor. The colour shifts towards purple when an acid such as lime juice is added. Tea packers, herbal drink brands, retailers and cafes buy it as a ready infusion and as a plant-based blue colour for drinks. The packaging list covers individual tea envelopes, transparent pyramid mesh bags, foil-lined stand-up pouches, cylindrical tin canisters, kraft paper boxes and windowed retail cartons. Private label packing is listed as available. The product is sold by the unit, so ask how many bags or grams one unit holds.
